Job Description

We are seeking a Director of Operations for our Center of Excellence for Structural Cell Biology in the Department of Structural Biology.

The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing areas with combined research and/or clinical functions OR oversees multiple areas with various broad functional groups or with a global focus. Directs and oversees all administrative and operational aspects. Develops and implements departmental and institution wide programs and initiatives. Oversees the budget planning process, strategic planning process, as well as compliance and quality improvement initiatives. May be required to play a vital role in international affairs including contracts and communications, as the department requires. Serves as a subject matter expert within area of expertise.

The scope of responsibilities will include managing internal and external messaging on behalf of the Center of Excellence for Structural Cell Biology (COE SCB), draft compelling and impactful narratives highlighting the accomplishments, lessons learned, milestones, etc. of COE SCB, facilitate strategic discussions in establishing the evolutionary path of COE SCB in support of the strategic vision of Dr.Georgios Skiniotis, PhD, faculty member in the Department ofStructural Biology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directly oversee an area/department, translate strategic goals of the department into operational goals and ensure communication across the team.
  • Manage departmental finances, operations and human resources; Develop department budget, reallocating resources as needed.
  • Lead the development and oversee the execution of departmental goals by regular assessment, risk identification & management and regular communication with key/senior stakeholders.
  • Review/oversee large and/or strategic contracts and build strong collaboration with external and internal strategic partners.
  • Collaborate with key leaders in internal functions to optimize institutional outcomes.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives that have significant department wide impact.
  • Actively drive processes for team management in terms of goalsetting, performance, development, and engagement.
  • Coach and develop individuals and ensure they have rich career experiences and rotational opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • 10+ years related experience.
  • Significant experience managing large teams and building systems and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Experience translating strategic goals into operational goals and overseeing execution.
  • Proven experience leading administration & operations management, driving execution, managing stakeholders, budget planning & resource mgmt.
  • Prior experience in vendor contract negotiations and strategic vendor relationship management.
  • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $125,840 - $238,160 per year for the role of Director Operations in Structural Biology.
