Job Description
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Driver is responsible for the safe and courteous transportation of residents of The Highlands at Wyomissing. This includes both scheduled and on-demand trips, primarily within the local area, with occasional out-of-area transport. The Driver plays a key role in supporting resident well-being and community operations by ensuring timely, accessible, and secure travel across all levels of care. All duties are performed in accordance with organizational values, regulatory standards, and applicable laws.
Essential Functions/Duties:
- Safely operate a variety of vehicles, including vans and wheelchair-accessible vehicles, to transport residents, staff, and volunteers.
- Assist residents with mobility support during transport, including safe boarding, seating, and exiting for both ambulatory and wheelchair-dependent individuals.
- Transport residents to medical appointments, community events, and other designated locations in a timely manner.
- Provide transportation for staff during weather emergencies or as directed by management.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure operational safety; promptly report any issues or concerns.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, fuel levels, and routine upkeep.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, traffic regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
- Exhibit professional and compassionate customer service at all times.
- Accurately document transportation activities and complete required reports.
- Participate in mandatory training, including CPR certification, safety procedures, and customer service programs.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance and flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Participate in and complete all required ongoing training, including monthly online and in-person training, annual skills competencies education, and role-specific certifications, to ensure continued competence and adherence to organizational and regulatory standards.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This position requires the ability to work during nonstandard hours including evenings (depending on shift assigned), weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.
Hours and Benefits:
- Position is a per-diem position with no guaranteed hours or guaranteed shift assignment.
- Position is not benefits eligible.
- Position requires at least one summer and one winter holiday.
- Position is required to work across all levels of care on The Highlands at Wyomissing campus.
Travel:
- Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area travel is expected.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school Diploma or GED (Required)
- 3 years' driving experience (Required)
- 1-3 years' experience in the transportation of people (Preferred)
- CPR Certification
- Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain CDL license within 6-months of hire date
- Completion of the Highlands Hearthstone Ambassador training within 30 days of employment (Required)
Work Authorization/Security Clearances:
- Medical Screening
- Criminal History Clearance
- FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Only required if you have not lived in PA for the last 2 years)
- Immigration and naturalization (I-9) Clearance
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and acceptable MVR (Required)
Physical Requirements and Physical Demands:
- Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
- Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone.
- Writing: Must be able to accurately document pertinent information either by writing or typing.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk, lift 25 lbs.
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to bend, crouch, kneel, pull with force, reach above head, reach above shoulder, push/pull up to 350 lbs., lift 50 lbs.
