The State Income/Franchise Tax Consultant ("Consultant") works with a team to provide complex consulting services to corporate clients. The consultant will gain an understanding of how the client computes each component of the state tax, which includes generally accepted accounting principles and federal income tax concepts. This includes researching issues, reconciling databases, and completing detailed calculations. The taxing authority verifies the issues, and the Consultant assists the team with this process.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan's Key Results

Client:

  • Helping to identify creative solutions to minimize our client's domestic corporate income and franchise tax burden by reviewing client data, becoming familiar with our clients' business, and thorough research of applicable tax law.
  • Responsible for data collection from our clients and reviewing all documentation.
  • Assist in the proactive recovery of taxes overpaid, by coordinating with corporate tax departments, working with state auditors and other officials, and assisting tax advocacy and outside counsel in the preparation of litigation.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other degree with Master's in Business Discipline or JD. Must have (12) Accounting hours with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and a Major GPA of 3.25 or higher. One to three years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel, as well as Microsoft Outlook and Internet navigation and research.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver's license required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm in person and via e-mail and telephone.
  • Position requires regular interaction with clients and interface with external vendors in person and via e-mail and telephone.
  • Independent travel requirement: Up to 10-20%.
