IS Data Center Technician

 

four 10 hour days a week

Works Sunday through Wednesday 12-10pm

 

 

Carries out day-to-day administration to ensure the availability of the systems and applications that reside in the data centers. Monitors, documents and trends daily events in the data centers with the emphasis on system availability. Analyzes events linked to data center resources, recognizing prevailing issues or faults, implementing efficient solutions within minimal timeframes. Willing to work in a 24 x 7 environment, required.

 

 

Essential Functions:

• Installs, maintains, and decommissions data center devices.
• Provides operational support and troubleshooting expertise for the systems and applications in the data centers.
• Maintains and updates systems to keep information and resources secure and safe from known vulnerabilities. Monitors the physical and logical security of data centers and the hardware that reside in the data centers.
• Monitors data center systems and applications. Follows established procedures to conduct regular inspections and audits of systems and information to ensure all services are in a perfect state.
• Proactively monitors the work order queue, emails and change controls to anticipate customer's need for support. Raises tickets to address problems, incidents and changes, ensuring that issues are resolved or escalated as appropriate.
• Maintains system documentation in central configuration management database. Develops and documents support procedures, resolutions and contributes knowledge base articles.
• Follows data center procedures and protocols. Ensures the assurance of information, actively protecting sensitive, classified, and confidential information.

Education Requirement:

• Associate’s Degree, or equivalent experience, required.
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.

Certifications:

Server+ certification, preferred.

Skills:

• Knowledge on maintaining and managing Windows Server operating systems, required.
• Decent understanding of Solarwinds monitoring and alerting tool, required.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multiple small projects simultaneously while effectively meeting all deadlines and budgets, preferred.
• Basic Storage Area Network knowledge, preferred.
• Familiarity with the Nlyte data center infrastructure management tool, preferred. 

Experience:

• Experience implementing and supporting a Cisco UCS hardware environment, required.
• Experience in a data center environment: racking & stacking equipment and cable management, required.
• Experience with day-to-day virtual server management (create/modify/remove) with VMware vSphere, required.
• Familiar with the ServiceNow IT service management solution, required.
• Basic networking experience, required.
