Job Description

Position Overview:

The 5th/6th Grade ELA Teacher will cultivate a love for reading and writing while building students' literacy skills. This teacher will create a nurturing and rigorous environment that helps students develop critical thinking and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts lessons aligned with state standards and the school's curriculum.
  • Teach reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and vocabulary to develop well-rounded literacy skills.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and guide instruction.
  • Foster a love for literature by introducing diverse and culturally relevant texts.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages collaboration, discussion, and creativity.
  • Serve as a homeroom teacher, providing social-emotional support and building a sense of community among students.
  • Communicate with families about student progress and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Participate in professional learning communities.
  • Write lesson plans and enter grades weekly.
  • Participate in evening events, student conferences, concerts, and other family events.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to the school community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, English, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • State teaching certification in English or ELA (or ability to obtain certification).
  • Experience teaching middle school students, particularly in grades 5 or 6.
  • Strong knowledge of literacy development and instructional strategies.
  • Passion for fostering a growth mindset and resilience in students.

Compensation

60,000 - 80,0000 per year
