Helper - Hvac

Located in our Iowa City, IA facility, the Pipefitter Helper will assist in fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining commercial HVAC piping systems with direction and supervision provided by the lead technician through hands-on training.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the installation and maintenance of pressure piping systems.
• Assist in construction, maintaining, and fixing piping systems to make sure that fluids flow securely and without leaks from one point to another.
• Assist with ensuring that piping runs well.
• Ability to read blueprints and install piping accurately.
• Provide the supplies and tools need for a project to the pipe fitter by loading, transporting, and unloading them in a safely manner.
• Assist with setting up work with necessary tools and equipment.
• Assist pipefitters with configuration, arranging and installing pipe, knowing pipe fittings, rivets and valves, preparing pipe and fixtures for lifting and trying to rig, being accustomed to metallic elements, locating and marking metal flexing and cutting routes, cleaning work area, and restocking parts and equipment as needed.
• Working on elevated ground and maintaining balance when standing on restricted levels such as beams and pipelines.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma (or equivalent). Strong work ethic.
• Mechanically inclined.
• Driven, dependable, coachable.
• Strong scores on mechanical comprehension tests.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong verbal skills.
• Well organized.
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders, lifts, and scaffolds.
• Ability to stand, stoop kneel, or crouch.
• Capable of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical activity requirements are in excess of those for light work. Physically working foremen must be able to reach for, handle, and feel objects; lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds in a safe manner.

Ability to read and understand safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.

Physical Demands:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other plumbing equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires:? stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work.

Work Environment:

This job operates primarily alone and travels to different work sites each day. May work in tight spaces, typically indoors, but may work outside in poor weather conditions. Vehicles are used as the base of operations.
