Founded in 1973, the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University (BYU Law) has grown into one of the nation's leading law schools. The J. Reuben Clark Law Society is an international non-profit organization of attorneys and law students of faith, and is part of the J. Reuben Clark Law School.

WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS POSITION
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Associate Director of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (JRCLS) plays a vital role in advancing the mission and vision of the Society. This senior leadership position involves global oversight and direct engagement with senior Church leaders, legal professionals, government officials, and law students worldwide. The Associate Director serves on the JRCLS International Board, co-leads the Management Team, and oversees all organizational functions of the Law Society, including 23 Area Chairs operating across the globe.
This role requires excellent leadership, diplomacy, communication, and strategic planning skills. It offers a unique opportunity to strengthen legal communities globally through service, education, and a commitment to the Society’s core pillars: religious freedom, pro bono service, and the rule of law.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership as Associate Director and International Board member, supporting the Executive Director in implementing the Law Society’s global mission and overseeing internal organizations and leadership teams
Supervise and support the BYU-based Management Team and coordinate with 23 Area Chairs and global chapters.
Represent the Law Society at domestic and international events, conferences, and meetings with legal and government leaders.
Draft, update, and manage internal policies, training materials, and publications aligned with the Society’s pillars: religious freedom, pro bono service, and the rule of law.
Lead training efforts for Area Chairs, chapter leaders, committee chairs, and internal staff.
Oversee major events including the Annual Conference, Annual Fireside, Leadership Conference, Religious Liberty Fellowship, and BYU Education Week.
Manage administrative tasks including budgeting, compliance, hiring, and volunteer engagement in alignment with BYU and 501(c)(3) standards.
WHAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS ROLE?
Required:
Juris Doctorate degree AND seven years of professional experience, including leadership and management experience.
Material experience drafting policies, lessons, manuals, materials, and articles.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability:
to speak clearly and persuasively
to establish strong working relationships
to write clearly and persuasively
Ability to travel frequently and extensively within the United States and internationally.
Ability to create a team approach among employees.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Professional integrity and excellent judgment.
Sensitivity to confidential records and information.
Committed work ethic (steady work habits plus the ability to work hours beyond the usual 40 hours per week when necessary)
Preferred:
Minimum requirements, as well as:
Professional experience in one of the following fields of law: religious freedom, pro bono service, humanitarian service, constitutionalism, rule of law, or family.
Strong prior engagement in the J. Reuben Clark Law Society and an understanding of its mission.
International experience and ability to work in multiple languages.
