Job Description:

Responsible for providing assistance to special education teachers. Assists in the instruction of students with multiple disabilities including hearing or nonverbal. May provide assistance with a variety of daily functions such as toileting, feeding, and behavior support. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community members and school clientele.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent lifting from twenty (20) to over fifty (50) pounds
  • Occasional lifting from five (5) to fifty (50) pounds
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Frequent bending, standing, sitting, walking, squatting, stooping, reaching, kneeling

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:

  • -- Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
  • -- May create and assemble instructional materials such as bulletin boards.
  • -- Provide motor programs as prescribed by a physical therapist and assist in documentation of progress.
  • -- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • -- Administer and document prescription medication to students and performs a variety of medical procedures.
  • -- Facilitate friendships within school and community settings between special needs students and others.
  • -- Participate in planning daily and long range lessons and activities with teachers. Will make decisions within frame work of teacher instructions and modify curriculum to meet Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.
  • -- Assist students with a variety of daily functions, such as feeding, toileting, etc. as well as life skills instruction. May include food preparation, hand over hand feeding or tube feeding.
  • -- Supervise students in non classroom settings, assist and escort students, including transferring to and from buses. May include lifting children and equipment.
  • -- Provide Individualize Language Complexity according to student needs in sign language. Must be able to synthesize English to main ideas in sign language.
  • -- Communicate with parents and other school personnel as needed. Respect confidentiality regarding students needs and abilities.
  • -- Collaborate and consult with special education team and other specialists on various activities, planning, and resource allocations for special education students.

  • All salary amounts listed above are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
