365 Retail Markets is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our infrastructure team. This role will own the health, performance, and scalability of our databases across AWS RDS, GCP SQL, and virtual machines. The ideal candidate has at least 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience, advanced Shell scripting skills, and a proactive, performance-driven mindset. Initially, you will start with MySQL responsibilities. Over time, your scope will expand to include Snowflake and SQL Server. Please note that as part of the role, there may be additional requirements to support other database technologies. We value adaptability and expect team members to be open to learning new platforms and tools as business needs evolve.
Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and optimize databases hosted on AWS RDS, GCP SQL, and Linux virtual machines
- Ensure MySQL 8.0+ and MariaDB 11 databases are performant, scalable, and secure
- Monitor and troubleshoot replication, backup, and performance issues (CPU, memory, I/O)
- Create and maintain indexes; tune SQL queries and advise developers on best practices
- Design and implement robust disaster recovery and backup strategies
- Write and maintain Shell scripts (required) for automation and alerting, Python a strong plus
- Monitor and improve MySQL replication lag and overall system reliability
- Support compliance efforts including PCI, PII, and other regulatory or industry standards relevant to the company's operations Assist with deployment of schema and data change scripts
- Handle Snowflake data integrations and support internal ETL workflows
- Collaborate with internal teams and occasionally assist with external ticket resolutions
Requirements
- 5+ years of DBA experience in production environments
- Strong knowledge of MySQL 8.0+, MariaDB 11, and MySQL replication
- Advanced Shell scripting skills (required)
- Experience with AWS RDS, GCP SQL, and Linux-based virtual machines
- Strong Unix/Linux administration background
- Understanding of performance tuning and query optimization techniques
- Ability to work in a 24x7 support model and participate in on-call rotations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Python scripting experience preferred
- Experience with Snowflake, FiveTran, or custom ETL pipelines preferred
- Familiarity with SQL Server preferred
- Exposure to highly regulated or PCI-compliant environments preferred
- Scheduling for this role is on site for the first 3 months; schedule will be re-evaluated for hybrid thereafter
