Job Description

Job Summary:

Our Electrical Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading an innovative and high performing team of electrical engineers and FPGA designers on projects ranging from short technology investigations to full end-to-end high-volume product development. You'll also be deeply involved in technical work including prototyping and modeling, schematic design, PCB layout, and testing.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Enabling, maintaining, and improving the process used in the EE department to develop circuit boards and FPGA code.

Staffing development projects with engineers having the appropriate skill sets and experience.

Identification of, and investment in, new technologies, design tools and methodologies needed to keep Teledyne FLIR’s products in market leading positions.

Hiring new employees and consultants

Providing technical oversight and support for all EE projects and engineers

Ability to backstop most projects or engineers, i.e. deep technical capability renewed by periodic hands-on use

Career development, assessment and ongoing education for staff across all experience levels

Coordination of EE support for products in production (trouble shooting of failures beyond the scope of manufacturing engineering, and non-trivial component obsolescence)

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree desired

Minimum of 8 years experience as an Electrical Engineer or Firmware Engineer

Experience successfully leading highly innovative and productive teams desired

Excellent project problem-solving skills

Excellent written & verbal communication skills

Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies desired (Microsoft Project, JIRA JWM)

Ability to travel occasionally

Experience identifying, planning, coordinating, managing and executing the electrical features of new product developments

Successful design of products that have entered high rate production and experience working with offshore contract manufacturers

Expertise in all phases of electrical product development

Proven ability to manage a diverse team, providing technical guidance to product development, engineering, and operations

Successful development of direct reports, enhancing their professional skills and setting strategic goals & deliverables

Experienced with building and implementing product development processes that enhance and support a nimble environment

Desired experience in any of the following: infrared cameras or systems, imaging sensor integration, automotive electronics, electronics miniaturization, design for harsh environments.

Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.

Required Competencies:

Attention to Detail Required to ensure all aspects of a design are addressed and to ensure the electronics are sufficiently qualified prior to deliver to the customer.

Collaboration & Teamwork  Required to bring group members together to produce their best work as well as building cross discipline respect and understanding.

Communication Skills/Presentation Skills Strong verbal (including listening) skills are required when interfacing with engineers, program managers, etc. and third party design bureaus.  Effective written skills are required to convey design information, generate proposals, statements of work and presentations.

Innovation Desired to advance company policies and procedures to help create efficiency and a work environment that stimulates employees with new ideas.

Continuous Learning  Desired to increase the individual’s technical value to the electrical engineering group and the organization.  Management study also desired to become a more effective manager/leader.

Decision Making & Problem Solving These skills are required to objectively express engineering trade-offs to the team and make decisions that encourage long term advancement of the electrical engineering group and ensure stated objectives are met.

Flexibility Required continually evaluating group processes and methodology and making changes when necessary.  Manager must not stand in the way of change that can empower employees and advance the corporation.

Initiative Desired in a manager that provides leadership and direction through his/her own actions.

Organization, Planning & Execution Required to effectively manage multiple projects being performed by multiple individuals.  Proper organization and planning lead to good execution

Preferred Education & Background

  •              Bachelor’s degree or greater in Electrical Engineering preferred. Other degrees with relevant electrical engineering design experience will be considered

  • Salary Range:

    $141,900.00-$189,200.000

    The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
