About the Role
As an Electrical Estimator at Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in supporting project development by preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for electrical scopes on modular construction projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to ensure cost-effective and timely project execution. You’ll contribute directly to our mission of delivering innovative modular building solutions while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Operations teams to evaluate plans, specifications, and bid documents, ensuring estimates align with project requirements and company objectives. This is an onsite role located in Chandler, AZ or Austin, TX, with regular travel required to job sites across multiple states.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment, enjoys problem-solving, and takes pride in producing precise, data-driven cost assessments that support project success.
What You’ll Do
Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare detailed electrical cost estimates.
Develop accurate take-offs and pricing for materials, labor, and subcontracted services.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and procurement teams to ensure estimate accuracy and alignment with project goals.
Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project specifications.
Utilize McCormick Estimating Software to generate and manage cost data efficiently.
Identify potential risks, discrepancies, and opportunities for value engineering during the preconstruction phase.
Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition from estimating to construction.
Maintain and update historical cost data for use in future estimates.
Conduct electrical inspections as needed; prior experience with inspections is a plus.
Leads and promotes healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
3–5 years of experience in electrical estimating, preferably within commercial, industrial, or modular construction.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
Proven experience using McCormick Estimating Software.
Strong understanding of electrical systems, codes, and industry standards.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Clear communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating databases.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
Willingness to travel regularly to properties and construction sites across multiple states.
Work Environment
Work is conducted in an office environment with a controlled climate, involving standard office equipment and tasks.
Requires a professional demeanor and effective communication with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
Regular travel to properties and construction sites is required across multiple states.
Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of this role.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer, including repetitive hand and wrist movements.
Proficiency in handling office equipment and moving around the office.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
Good visual acuity for reading screens and documents.
