Job Description

The Electromagnetics Engineer is responsible for providing design and testing support to other design teams on all the electromagnetic effects: EMI, HIRF, Lightning and static. You will be part of a small team acting as subject matter experts on these topics, providing design guidelines and assistance in test preparation and execution to the broader engineering team. Your curiosity will be leveraged to conduct both certification and research projects to continually improve design practices of both the aircraft and its systems, using BETA’s state-of-the-art test facilities. Your time will be spread between theoretical or analytical documentation and practical or manual work on test fixtures and test execution.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Interact with the certification authorities to define lightning, RF and EMI requirements
- Coordinate and perform aircraft-level electromagnetic tests
- Coordinate equipment and system level tests with the various design teams
- Collect the test results and prepare the reports required for certification
- Document best-practice EMI design guidelines for designers to use
Minimum Qualifications:
- Electrical Engineering or Physics background
- Good understanding of the physics of electromagnetics
- Good understanding of the certification processes
- High energy, self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented
- Good team, communication and leadership skills
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
- Experience certifying aircraft for electromagnetic aspects
- DO-160 / MIL-STD-461 testing experience
- Hands-on capabilities to prepare test articles
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- A car is required to visit the various test installations
