Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: TBD

Work Shift: 11a-11p

JOB SUMMARY:          

The ED Technician is a specially trained bedside caregiver who assists the professional nursing staff in performing routine care, performs specialized technical skills, reports any unusual incident or findings, and maintains patient safety at all times to a group of patients for a designated time period.  Care given by an ED Technician is in accordance with standards and procedures of the hospital.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in one of the following areas preferred:

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in an acute care hospital

EMT-Basic on an ambulance crew

Patient Care Technician (PCT) in an acute care hospital

Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an ILCOR-approved provider (e.g., Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross) that includes a hands-on manikin skills check.

If not certified at the time of hire, you must obtain approved BLS certification within 3 months of your start date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must possess good physical health.  
  • Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting at least 20 pounds is required.  Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
  • Physical Effort required:        
  • Constant (67%-100%) - seeing
  • Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing
  • Occasionally (1%-33%) - climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), stooping, crouching
