SUMMARY:
The Employee Benefits Marketing Specialist & SBU Account Executive is a hybrid role combining strategic client consulting with technical renewal execution. This position manages a book of business clients, providing guidance on benefit trends and solutions while overseeing the complete renewal process from data gathering through carrier negotiations to final implementation.
This position partners with clients through regular meetings to understand business challenges and propose innovative benefit solutions that enhance competitiveness. Simultaneously, this role manages all technical aspects of renewals including eligibility audits, carrier quotes, data analysis, presentation creation, and underwriting coordination. Success requires both strategic consulting abilities and analytical project management skills, measured by client retention, renewal quality, and demonstrated value to client benefit programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing Specialist Responsibilities:
Manage the end-to-end annual Group Health benefits renewal process for assigned client block
Request and manage the RFP and quote process with various insurance carriers
Request or download renewals and alternate plan designs from appropriate vendors
Create and manage spreadsheets to effectively display and communicate quote information
Analyze carrier quotes and create professional renewal presentations and proposals
Manage the underwriting process including coordination with insurance carriers and clients
Order and prepare insurance carrier documentation including enrollment materials and provider booklets
Support medical quoting for prospective clients through the Sales Department
Ensure smooth transitions from renewal process to client service department for ongoing service
Client Relationship & Strategic Consulting SBU AE Responsibilities:
- Partner with each client in the book of business through regular, pre-planned meetings
- Understand key business issues facing clients and bring viable solutions to address their needs
- Act intentionally to retain clients through proactive relationship management
- Present and deliver renewal recommendations directly to clients with clear, professional presentations
- Provide value through timely presentations of additional benefit options and innovative solutions
- Serve clients as an educator on benefit topics, including as a special speaker when appropriate
- Alert clients to potential legislative and coverage issues proactively
Industry Knowledge & Professional Development:
- Understand thoroughly and stay knowledgeable of employee benefits, including plan designs, available riders, legislation, and emerging trends
- Share knowledge and industry insights with others at HUB
- Attend training opportunities and regularly participate in coursework to earn or maintain professional designations
- Read and share industry knowledge with team members
Team Collaboration & Communication:
- Communicate thoroughly and clearly with all team members concerning client issues, renewals, and proactive work
- Proactively manage the process being followed by the service team and immediately address problems
- Maintain organized filing systems and client documentation
- Masterfully collect, organize, and review relationship information
- All other duties and special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
1-3 years of experience in employee benefits including a strong knowledge of employee benefit plans, ancillary coverages, and current legislation
Excellent communication and presentation skills (listens, speaks, and writes well); able to interact effectively with people of various responsibility and authority (employees, key contacts, executives, etc.).
Highly organized.
Able to manage a multitude of details (including paperwork); stays proactive while managing these issues.
Possess a natural inclination to reach out, build relationships, and uncover issues before the client calls HUB.
Very comfortable with typical business technology including voice mail, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
Strong in problem-solving and negotiation skill sets
Ability to travel to all Carolinas office locations and client sites as needed
Valid Life/Health Insurance Producer License preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
EDUCATION, LICENSING OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred; High School Diploma required.
- Travel negligible. Must be willing to travel within the Carolinas.
- LA&H License preferred. Must have or be willing to obtain a NC/SC Life and Health Insurance License within 60 days of employment.
