Job Description
The Engineering Lead will lead the market's design and engineering teams with advanced degrees of responsibilities utilizing a fully developed knowledgebase of the telecommunications site development process. Project work will focus on new site development of macro and small cell sites, the modification of existing telecommunications facilities, fiber optic networks, and other project types as required. Responsibilities will include production and personnel management, resource allocation, and quality analysis and quality control of design and engineering deliverables. Advanced problem solving and analytics will be employed and shared with the team as well as mentorship and training. Direct project support will be required via interactions with internal stakeholders to communicate a clear understanding of assignments, project reporting, and timeliness of deliverables. The Engineering Lead will maintain an understanding of the entire telecommunications site development project cycle with an in-depth comprehension of civil, structural, and fiber engineering standards and requirements. Indirect responsibilities include assisting the Chief Engineer in implementation of division-wide strategies and initiatives as they relate specifically to the market.
Responsibilities:
- Provide managerial direction and supervision to develop, manage, promote, and integrate all aspects of design and engineering, including civil, structural, and fiber reports and drawings; to meet project needs; and achieve market and company objectives
- Develop, establish, and implement quality analysis and quality control procedures for the market in line with company standards
- Complete quality analysis and quality control review of all design and engineering deliverables and professionally endorse (sign and/or seal) reports, plans, and other contract documents
- Evaluate and clearly report all costs associated with each project assignment including materials, costs of labor, and time expended
- Ensure all project assignments adhere to budget and operate in line with projected timeline
- Work with outside vendors on engineering items such as CAD deliverables, field work, pole surveys, etc.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure that the project pace is not impacted negatively by unnecessary delays
- Interact with internal stakeholders to understand project assignments, deliverables, and timelines
- Represent NB+C in a professional manner when interacting with internal and external resources
- Effectively allocate resources including personnel, materials, and time
- Assess project risks and collaborate with internal stakeholders to alleviate such risks; risks include project viability as well as delays to the project timeline
- Assist senior design and engineering staff with complex design and engineering assignments Personnel Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the design and engineering teams
- Lead internal staff meetings with design and engineering team members to assign tasks, review status of assignments, and implement changes necessary to ensure timely completion
- Invest in the growth and development of team members through shared knowledge, training, and mentorship
- Provide guidance, best practices, lessons learned, practical, and financial training to senior design and engineering staff and those individuals targeted for future management roles
- Conduct annual performance appraisals in Saba Cloud for the design and engineering staff, including goal setting, career pathing, and ongoing feedback
- Promote the utilization of NB+C's Human Capital software suite in order to communicate and facilitate performance feedback throughout the year
- Collaborate with the Chief Engineer to develop compensation plans for the design and engineering teams
- Identify and correct project performance or disciplinary issues
- Collaborate with the Chief Engineer to develop staffing strategies and coordinate personnel needs
- Strategically hire and train design and engineering staff to establish timelines, workflow, efficiency, and accuracy
- Assist talent acquisition with candidate review and selection
- Interface with Engineering Market Managers in other markets to promote communication and collaboration amongst peers as well as sharing of resource
Qualification:
- B.S. civil/structural engineering or engineering technology required; advanced degree preferred
- PE required, or 7+ years of telecommunications engineering and/or management experience with strong technical knowledge
- NCEES active record with multiple state PE licenses preferred
- Extensive telecommunications industry experience required, including but not limited to civil and/or structural engineering, electrical, geotechnical, utilities, inspections, construction, and project management
- Professional knowledge of principles of engineering and engineering design, including transportation, civil (grading and site analysis), structural, electrical, geotechnical, and aerial make ready
- Competency in reading, understanding, and interpreting complex building, tower, structural, and construction drawings as well as engineering plans
- Proficient in building codes and standards used in the telecommunications industry and their application
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Professional and applicable understanding of project management principles
- Excellent budgeting and cost management abilities, including forecasting and the ability to complete assignments operating within a strict budget
- Technical acumen and the ability to troubleshoot on a variety of projects
- Ability to research and draw upon engineering knowledge to yield feasible and creative solutions
- Strong written and oral communications skills, including public speaking and presentation
- Innovative mindset and strong problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven ability to lead a team, including achieving excellent cross-discipline and outside vendor results
- Proven ability to responsibly delegate project assignments
- Proven ability to lead multiple assignments, including multiple separate project teams
- Detail-oriented and possess strong follow-through skills
- Professional understanding of all telecommunications site development disciplines, including site acquisition, land use, RF, and construction management
- Ability to create and maintain positive working relationships and enhance the image of the company
- Ability and willingness to travel regionally
