Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates environmental health and safety programs for the facility, including training, writing programs, program implementation, policy reviews, activities and facility inspections. Serves as the sites EHS trainer for all contractors and new employee orientation. Serves as the coordinator of the sites Environmental health and safety program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains the company EHS plan, programs and permits in a manner consistent with company policy, as well as Federal, State and Company laws/guidelines.
  • Coordinates with Operations to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements on the installation, operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Site coordinator and CAL-OSHA contact for VPP. Submits all required reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and maintain the following Industrial Hygiene Programs (hazardous communication and hearing conservation). Including maintenance of Safety Data Sheets, audiometric testing, etc.
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, PPE, and correct handling of equipment and materials.
  • Prepares and submits accident reports required by management. Provides expertise and oversight to ensure effective corrective actions are implemented. Performs fault-tree analysis of near miss incident and injury events to ensure comprehensive and effective response to recognized root causes.
  • Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program. Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries.
  • Maintains EHS files and records, including safety hours worked.
  • Prepare and conduct contractor, safety environment and new employee orientation training.
  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards, to prevent access to hazardous conditions and to promote safe & healthful work practices.
  • Perform practice sessions and drills in such a manner and frequency as to ensure plant readiness in the event of a major emergency
  • Update and maintain Action Item Matrix to make sure all safety issues and concerns are tracked and addressed.
  • Facility Security Officer (FSO) - Investigate suspicious security activity at the facility.

Long Beach Additional Duties:

  • Fill in for site Operations Manager as needed.
  • Assist with purchase requisition creation and discrepancy reconciliation
  • Assist with receiving of incoming materials and services
  • Serve as backup or Shipping Clerk, Includes:
  • Print loading documents; provide paperwork to drivers
  • Prepare and provide copies of weight tickets to customers
  • Provide seals for all Pneumatic loads, placard labeling and enclose trailers
  • Work with carriers, sales, customer service and transportation to ensure all issues are promptly resolved

Qualifications- Minimum Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • BS in Environmental Health and Safety or similar
  • 3 years experience in EHS
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 300
  • Certification in Electrical Safety- NFPA 70E
  • OSHA 5119 - CAL OSHA
  • Certified Facility Security Officer preferred
