About the Position
The Environmental Health & Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the company's safety programs. This role is central to ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture across field crews, construction sites, and office environments.
This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on engagement in field operations. Work will be performed in both office and outdoor construction environments, often involving varied terrain and weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy Development:Create, update, and implement health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Risk Assessment:Conduct regular safety audits and job hazard analyses; identify risks and lead corrective actions.
- Training & Education: Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees at all levels.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate workplace incidents, manage documentation and claims, and recommend preventive improvements.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to OSHA, MSHA, FMCSA, and other applicable standards; monitor legislative updates and maintain company compliance.
- Site Inspections & Audits: Perform routine inspections of construction sites, verifying proper PPE use, safety signage, and compliance with safety procedures.
- Reporting:Prepare and maintain safety performance reports for management, regulatory agencies, and contractor pre-qualification processes.
- Safety Culture Leadership: Promote open communication regarding safety concerns, reinforce positive safety behaviors, and lead by example in the field.
- Field Engagement:Work directly with craft workers and field crews to identify hazards, provide coaching, and correct unsafe behaviors.
- Other Duties:Perform additional responsibilities as needed to effectively manage the Civil Construction EHS Department.
Requirements
- Degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred. Certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or CHST are highly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of field experience in environmental health and safety within heavy civil construction, including pipeline utilities, asphalt operations, mining sites, or highway construction.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, MSHA, FMCSA, and applicable state regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for delivering training and reporting to leadership.
- Must report to the Northern Colorado office with reliable transportation. Employee will receive a vehicle allowance or be assigned a company vehicle for use during work hours.
- Must have experience managing an entire team.
