Job Description

Goosmann Law Firm is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Estate Tax & Business Succession Planning Attorney to join our estate planning and corporate law practice. This role is ideal for an attorney with a strong background in complex estate tax matters, closely held business structures, and succession planning for high-net-worth individuals and business owners.

This is a client-facing role that involves working closely with family-owned businesses, executives, and entrepreneurs to design sophisticated, tax-efficient plans that preserve wealth across generations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax strategies
  • Develop and implement comprehensive business succession plans for family-owned and closely held businesses
  • Structure and draft estate planning documents, including complex trusts (e.g., GRATs, ILITs, SLATs, IDGTs)
  • Coordinate with clients' financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to deliver integrated planning solutions
  • Analyze and plan for liquidity needs and tax liabilities personally and related to business interests
  • Assist with lifetime gifting strategies, intra-family transfers, entity restructuring, and charitable planning
  • Stay current on federal and state tax law developments impacting estate and succession planning

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • LL.M. in Taxation preferred but not required
  • CAP designation preferred but not required
  • Active bar membership required in one, but preferred in more, of the following Nebraska, Iowa and/or South Dakota.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in estate tax planning, business succession planning, or a related field
  • Deep understanding of federal estate, gift, and GST tax laws
  • Familiarity with business entity structures (LLCs, S-corps, partnerships) and ownership transfer mechanisms
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with high-net-worth clients and business owners
  • Proven ability to manage complex planning projects independently or as part of a team
