Job Description

EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION and EXPERIENCE:

  1. Education Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or related field required.

  2. Licenses No professional license required.

  3. Certifications Current BLS certification required. Personal training or other pertinent certifications preferred.

  4. Experience One to three months related experience and/or training preferred. Experience with Parkinson's Disease and/or boxing fitness is a bonus.

  • Background Check (Criminal, Civil, Educational, Previous Employment, etc.)
  • Driver Record Screen (positions requiring on-the-job driving)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Be knowledgeable of wellness assessment equipment, i.e., blood pressure cuff and stethoscope, oximeter, bio impedance monitor, skin fold calipers, tape measure, Dynamometer, sit-and-reach box, etc.; as well as cardio and strength training equipment, i.e., treadmill, bike, elliptical, etc.
  • Maintain reliable and punctual attendance - report to work on time and as scheduled. Wear identification while on duty.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information to include patient, customer, employee, and business information.
  • Complete work within designated time. Complete tasks to facilitate communication and positive team dynamics. Communicate necessary information to others as appropriate, using good personal communication skills.
  • Exhibit positive, professional conduct through both verbal and non-verbal communication, clearly communicating expectations, ideas, and suggestions and clarifying communication when necessary.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible and organized, and function under stressful conditions.
  • Use knowledge of chronic illnesses to determine appropriate exercise programs for all participants in individual and group settings.
  • Maintain up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of risk stratification, exercise prescription, exercise testing procedures, interpretation, and contraindications to exercise for moderate to high risk special populations.
  • Design and implement progressive exercise programming focused on cardiovascular fitness, functional strength, muscle endurance, and balance.
  • Provide ongoing motivation and support to participants to encourage adherence to exercise prescription.
  • Monitor and interpret vital measurements pre, intra, and post exercise for participants when necessary. Also, provide this assistance to FHW's Rehabilitation Department as needed.
  • For individual sessions, maintain current documentation of participant progress or retrogression and encourage participant communication with physicians and/or therapist.
  • Conduct ongoing drop-in group exercise sessions with safety considerations and exercise modifications.
  • Consult other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Schedule participant appointments and take program payments whenever possible.
  • Oversee maintenance and scheduling for group exercise classes.
  • Participate in and/or lead community-based programs as directed.
  • Develop, organize and implement various wellness workshops, and provide community lectures as the need arises.
  • Write articles for the Wellness Corner in the FHW employee newsletter.
  • Work with marketing to increase wellness program participation.
  • Treat all staff, participants, patients and their families with respect and dignity. Be sensitive to individual psychosocial needs.
  • Participate in and maintain performance improvement activities for department and organizational CQI activities.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies.
  • Participate in educational, staff performance-improvement in-services. Assist with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members. Participate in guidance and educational programs.
  • Participate in infection control, departmental equipment training, and organization's safety and fire safety programs.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly. Maintain departmental cleanliness and safety.
  • Participate as a team member and be accountable for own work responsibilities.
  • Serve, manage, and support internal and external customers including peers, and physicians.
  • Foster relationships with all peers (regardless of work area) to meet internal and external customer needs.
  • Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments; and with patients/customers.
  • Assist other team members in problem solving.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

10-20 hours per week

Wage start at $20.00 and goes up with experience
