Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Exploration Manager, the Exploration Operations Supervisor is a pivotal role responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of all field-based greenfields and brownfields exploration activities within the company's exploration portfolio. This position oversees drilling programs, field logistics operations, contractor management, procurement, health & safety compliance, and SAP-based financial and operational reporting.

The Day to Day:

Drilling Operations & Supervision

  • Plan, schedule, and supervise diamond, RC, and RAB drilling programs from mobilization to demobilization.

  • Optimize drill performance (meters/day, cost/meter, core recovery, downtime).

  • Manage multiple drill rigs and crews across concurrent projects.

  • Ensure rigorous QA/QC protocols for sampling, core logging, and down-hole surveys.

  • Review daily drill reports and contractor invoices for accuracy.

Field Logistics and Core Shed Management

  • Oversee establishment, operation, and closure of remote exploration projects.

  • Manage surface transport, fuel supply, water, waste, and communications.

Contractor Management & Procurement

  • Select, negotiate, and manage drilling, geophysical, earthworks, and service contractors.

  • Vendor on-boarding and compliance.

  • Draft, tender, and administer contracts (LOIs, master service agreements, rate schedules).

  • Monitor contractor performance against KPIs and ensure compliance with company standards.

  • Drive continuous cost and efficiency improvements.

  • Proactively identify innovative tools, emerging technologies, and methods to improve field operations.

Health, Safety, Environment & Community (HSEC)

  • Ensure SSR policies and processes are followed in all work programs while leading by example.

  • Ability to recognize and stop any exploration activity deemed to be unsafe or likely to have an environmental impact due to inadequate management.

  • Implement SSR safety management systems and tools to manage safety risk.

  • Ensure legal duty of care associated with exploration is well understood for projects under your management, and that the wider team understands requirements.

  • Coach and influence SSR employees, partners and contractors on safety and health procedures.

  • Work with team members to ensure practical and proactive solutions are achieved for safety risks identified and ensure identified actions are implemented and closed out.

  • Ensure environmental management requirements are imbedded in all exploration programs and assist in implementing programs to manage environmental compliance.

  • As appropriate and required, complete basic stakeholder engagement (e.g local community liaison) while maintaining strong relationships with local communities and regulatory bodies.

  • Lead risk assessments, emergency response planning, and incident investigations.

  • Implement and audit field-level permitting, inductions, journey management, and safe-work procedures.

SAP & Financial Management

  • Directly work with corporate accounts to process purchase orders and service entries.

  • Provide accurate monthly cost reports, variance analysis, and cash-flow forecasts.

  • Ensure expense of costs complies with corporate policy.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative field team culture.

  • Coordinate with corporate geology, permitting, and finance teams.

  • Coordinate with operations and sites while working within brownfields exploration.

Is this You?

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in mineral exploration field operations, with at least 5 years managing large-scale RC and Diamond drilling programs.

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, engineering, geology, mining, or applicable discipline is advantageous but not required.

  • Strong contractor negotiation and contract administration skills.

  • User of SAP advantageous but not required

  • Formal health & safety training (OHS diploma, ICAM lead investigator, etc.).

  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass remote-site medicals

  • Enthusiasm, drive and proactive team leadership skills

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, in a rapidly changing environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work at SSR Mining's exploration properties for extended periods of time (3 to 4 weeks duration)

  • GIS skills in industry standard software (ArcGIS etc)
