We are seeking an experienced and dynamic State Product Manager to partner with the Field Operations Team to establish, monitor, and influence all aspects of profitability and growth for assigned states. This role involves managing and enhancing existing products through analysis, research, and strategic recommendations related to product design, pricing, underwriting, agency management, distribution, claims, and other processes.

What does a STATE PRODUCT MANAGER do?

  • Manage 3-5 states, owning P&L performance and driving profitability to achieve company targets.
  • Develop pricing strategies based on in-depth analysis, considering actuarial indications, competitive position, market intelligence, underwriting initiatives, and the regulatory environment.
  • Drive and execute the entire rate change process, coordinating with Sales, Actuarial, Marketing, IT, and Test teams.
  • Identify and recommend actions for unprofitable segments, leveraging underwriting and agency levers.
  • Perform agency evaluations and work with Sales to act where agent rehabilitation is warranted.
  • Evaluate internal and external trends around frequency, severity, average premium, and retention.
  • Present state results and strategies to the executive team quarterly.
  • Track key financial and performance metrics and project future loss ratio results.
  • Achieve premium and policy count targets for your states.
  • Provide distribution channels with insights to target the right segments.
  • Work with Sales managers to find and maximize growth opportunities.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and offer recommendations.
  • Identify and prioritize product development and enhancement opportunities.
  • Assist with new state launches as needed
  • File and gain approval for regulatory changes
  • Build and maintain relationships with state Departments of Insurance.
  • Respond promptly to regulatory objections and coordinate with other departments.
  • Stay updated on state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Improve and automate internal processes.
  • Develop tools to address strategic business issues.
  • Mentor and support junior team members.
  • Take on other duties and projects as assigned.

What is required?

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Economics, Actuarial, Math, Statistics, Insurance, or a similar field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Product or Actuarial in the P&C Insurance industry.
  • Minimum of 4 years of state management experience in P&C; state management for personal auto insurance preferred.
  • Experience initiating, developing, and executing complex pricing and product changes, including submitting filings and responding to DOI objections.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance and actuarial concepts, business processes, pricing plans, underwriting rules, and key financial metrics
  • Proficiency with SQL, SAS, or Python required.
  • Experience with PowerBI and/or Tableau is a plus
  • Power BI skills a plus (ability to build reports and analyze data).
  • Proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis).

  • Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Experience presenting to Senior Leadership and influencing leaders across the organization.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and occasional travel (5%).
