Job Description

Job title: Tax Reviewer Pay range: $65,000 to $75,0000 / year

Department / Team: Tax Team Reports to: John Kirkland

Position overview: The Tax Reviewer plays a pivotal role in fulfilling our mission by:

Providing quality assurance reviews all returns to ensure compliance with tax rules/regulations, and client satisfaction.

Provide simple tax saving strategies to clients.

Answering staff questions and helping them learn the required technical skills to advance their careers.

Being constantly curious of why things are the way they are, looking for answers to challenges both internal and external that might not always fit within the box.

Here's what you'll be doing on a typical day:

  • Review federal and state income tax returns for individuals and businesses.
  • Verify tax forms for accuracy and compliance with rules & regulations.
  • Answer client tax related questions and provide recommendations on tax planning and minimization strategies.
  • Collaborate with tax preparers and advisors on complex tax issues.
  • Research and analysis of the latest federal, Florida state, and other relevant state tax laws, regulations, and rulings that may affect clients.

Preferred technical skills:

  • Business return knowledge: Have an in-depth understanding of the preparation, filing, and compliance of business tax returns (1065s, 1120S, disregarded entities), tailored to various business structures and applicable laws, ensuring accuracy and optimization of tax obligations
  • Tax strategy: Can identify when a tax planning strategy is applicable, implement tax strategies based on our guidelines, answer related client questions and empower the client throughout the process.
  • Project & work management: Understand the importance of project management, be able to keep track of work assigned to others and work promised to clients by a certain date. Be able to utilize a cloud based project management system to keep track of and monitor work being performed.
  • Accounting methods: Understand the difference between cash basis, modified accrual and full accrual accounting. Have a deep understanding of how transaction timing impacts this and how transactions should be recorded.
  • Attention to Detail: Capability to identify errors or inconsistencies in large sets of data.
  • Software: Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, CCH Axcess Tax.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

Past work experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience reviewing tax returns
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in CCH Axcess Tax

Education: Master's degree in taxation or accounting is preferred but not mandatory. Bachelors degree in accounting or tax is required. EA or CPA Certification is preferred, but not mandatory.

Travel: Minimal travel will be required for this position.

Location & schedule Our team builds trust with each other by openly communicating about work schedules with each other. Specifics include:

  • Hybrid position
  • 3 days in the office, with Wednesdays a required day. Working hours 9AM-5PM.
  • 2 days work from home (or the office, if you desire). Working hours flexible.
