Special Education Teacher – South River, New Jersey
Effective School Solutions (ESS) is currently seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team in South River, New Jersey School District. ESS is a leading provider of school-based mental health services for K-12 students, serving over 6,000 students daily across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and West Coast regions. About the Role
The Special Education Teacher will collaborate closely with a licensed therapist to support a small group of students exhibiting significant behavioral and emotional challenges. This role involves implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), managing classroom behaviors, and fostering a trauma-informed learning environment. The teacher will also work alongside a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to collect behavioral data and continuously develop effective behavior intervention strategies.
The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for supporting the lessons from a reputable online platform, helping students access and engage with core academic content while addressing their individual learning and emotional needs.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional and Behavioral Support:
· Design and deliver individualized instruction for middle and high school students aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and the student's IEP.
· Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to promote student engagement.
· Collaborate with the licensed therapist to integrate therapeutic strategies into daily instruction.
· Maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
· Support students in engaging with academic content delivered through an online platform, covering all traditional middle and high school subjects.
Collaboration and Communication:
· Participate in weekly consultation sessions with the licensed therapist and MHT to review student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
· Engage with parents, caregivers, and school staff to communicate student achievements and areas for growth.
· Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, providing insights on student performance and behavior.
Professional Development:
· Attend ESS-provided training sessions to stay current on best practices in special education and trauma-informed care.
· Engage in continuous learning opportunities to enhance instructional and behavioral management skills.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
· Valid New Jersey teaching certification in Special Education. Dually licensed teachers in Special Education and General Education, preferred.
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
· Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
