DIRECTOR OF REGIONAL STRATEGY AND POLICY
Reports to: Senior Director, Public Policy and Lands
Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Regional Strategy and Policy is a leadership role responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives that strengthen relationships with regional stakeholders, including Alaska Native village corporations, tribes, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and community organizations. This position will lead regional engagement and policy efforts that align with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of The Aleut Corporation (Aleut). The Director will serve as a key liaison and thought leader, fostering collaboration, advancing policy priorities, and promoting cultural and economic development across the Aleut region, Anchorage, and the Pacific Northwest.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Champion Aleut values: accountability, transparency and rigor.
Lead the development and implementation of regional policy and engagement strategies in alignment with corporate goals.
Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with:
Aleut village corporations and tribes
Regional and Aleut-affiliated non-profit organizations
Municipal and borough government officials
Alaska Native organizations across Alaska and the Pacific Northwest
Represent Aleut in high-level stakeholder meetings, local government affairs, community events and cultural gatherings.
Strong coordination with internal stakeholders (e.g., shareholder relations, government affairs, lands and grants) to ensure alignment and responsiveness to regional priorities.
Assist shareholder relations in the planning and execution of shareholder meetings and engagement events.
Track and report on strategic initiatives, stakeholder feedback, and policy outcomes to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities within the region and recommend strategic responses.
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Deep understanding of ANCSA, Alaska Native corporations, and regional governance structures.
- Demonstrated experience working with Alaska Native communities and organizations.
- Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to manage complex initiatives and balance diverse stakeholder interests.
- Strong public speaking, writing, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and engagement tracking tools.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
- High emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and ethical integrity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in public policy, business administration, Indigenous studies, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of seven (7) years in a leadership role involving stakeholder engagement, policy, or regional affairs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in Alaska Native Corporations or similar regional leadership roles.
