Work Schedule

1-5 hours per week. Tutors will need to be available to work 1 to 4 hour blocks of time Monday-Friday between 8 am and 3 pm. Tutors may also have the option to work after school hours from 3-4:30 pm Monday-Friday.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a Kansas resident, paying in-state tuition at KU
  • Must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, or higher
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours or more
  • Must be a sophomore or above in class year at KU

$10.25 per hour

Position Overview

The Youth Educational Services (YES) Tutoring program hires KU students to work as tutors and mentors in local Lawrence public schools. Tutors provide before, during and after school tutoring services with kindergarten through high school students. We look for KU students in a variety of majors who have a strong dedication to helping youth and a desire to make a difference.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
