Job Description

Graphic Designer (Part-Time: 17.5 hrs./week)

Are you a creative graphic designer who loves communicating through visual media? Do you love developing artwork for engaging, student-focused PR campaigns?

Digital Media and Communications (DMaC) in the BYU College of Humanities is seeking a part-time graphic designer who is excited about culture, critical thinking, challenging assumptions, and diversity. Our visual messaging requires talented designers who are eager to contribute to brand storytelling through digital media and print. You will work with other graphic designers on a collaborative team to contribute to the College’s semiannual alumni magazine, myriad print publications, social media, and other digital messaging. The ideal candidate will possess excellent graphic design skills and be able to provide input on college and department messaging design, be able to pay great attention to detail, and have a creative eye for digital media. You will work with two student employees, providing you the opportunity not only to collaborate with emerging talent, but also to mentor them in design principles and practices.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Develop creative designs for print and digital magazines and social media
  • Ensure timely project completion within deadlines
  • Review and archive proofs with editors, art directors, faculty, and management
  • Maintain awareness of new techniques and innovations in graphic design and multimedia

What qualifies you for this role:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design and two years of professional graphic design experience in both print and digital formats OR 6 years of professional graphic design experience in both print and digital formats
  • Knowledge of graphic design and the creative process
  • Highly skilled in Adobe creative Suite, especially with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Layout and composition proficiency with type and image
  • Ability to collaborate with student designers
  • Ability to prepare quality promotional/communication materials in both print and digital formats
  • Ability to produce professional illustrations using various mediums
  • Ability to work on and keep track of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Creative self-starter with good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to take and incorporate feedback
  • Work a regular, in-office schedule

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years professional graphic design experience OR 8+ years of professional design experience
  • Experience contributing to brand storytelling through digital media and print
  • Experience collaborating with and mentoring students or junior designers

Pay Grade: 52

Typical Starting Pay: $30.50 to $39.75 an hour
