Sea Mar Community Health Centers, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) founded in 1978, is a community-based organization committed to providing quality, comprehensive health, human, housing, educational and cultural services to diverse communities, specializing in service to Latinos in Washington State. Position Summary
The Pharmacy Assistant will provide support services to the pharmacists.

Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pharmacy Assistant will be able to perform the following functions under immediate
supervision of a pharmacist:
o Receive prescription from patients and obtain necessary information for profile and
insurance billing.
o Answer the phone and record refill authorization information.
o Call prescriber’s office to request refill authorization.
o Answer non -discretionary questions from patients, such as:
Price quotes
Product availability
Requests by patients if prescription has been called in and /or filed.
o Take refill requests from patients by phone or in person and produce a refill number.
o Place order to suppliers for medications and supplies.
o Check in orders and log invoices.
o Return medication to shelf when pharmacist has finished checking prescription.
o Perform financial transaction at cash register.
o Assist customers with finding OTC products.
o Pre-packing and labeling drugs for subsequent use in prescription dispensing operations.
o Record keeping for programs such as Sharing the Care.
o Count and pour from stock bottles from individual prescriptions. This function is
performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and the accuracy of the
prescription contents is checked and initialed by a licensed pharmacist.
The supervising pharmacist will thoroughly instruct the pharmacy assistant in the limitation of
the functions he/she may perform.
The pharmacy assistant will wear a nametag, which clearly identifies his/her status working in the
pharmacy and having contact with the general public.
The pharmacy assistant will perform his/her duties within the limits of function set forth by the
codes or regulations of the State of Washington and as supervised by the pharmacy director.
A pharmacy assistant may NOT perform the following functions:
o Obtain stock bottles for prescription filling.
o Enter patient and prescription information into the computer and produce a label for
the prescription.
o Produce a refill label without a refill number
o Counsel patients.
o Answer discretionary questions from patients.
o Accept new prescriptions over the phone from prescribers.
o Enter the pharmacy without a pharmacist on duty.
o Review DUR information or patient history for appropriateness of therapy.
Qualifications
No Specific qualifications are necessary, but the below must be met.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The assistant must speak English. Spanish or other languages are not required, but are strongly
recommended.
The assistant must be willing to learn a new language.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The assistant must be able to perform and comprehend basic mathematical calculations, which
are required in pharmacy services.
REASONING ABILITY
The assistant must be able to use common sense to perform the essential duties and
responsibilities listed above.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Medical Screening
EDUCATION and TRAINING
No formal training or educational requirements are necessary.
Registration with the Washington State Board of Pharmacy after completion of HIV training is
necessary.
A minimum of one-year customer service experience is require.
The pharmacy assistant must register with the Washington State Board of Pharmacy.
Additional Requirements
Annual influenza vaccine required. Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious
exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious
exemption must wear a mask at all time during the flu season.
Work Environment
The pharmacy is a closed environment, where the staff is separated from the customers. The assistant
must be able to interact with coworkers, customers and other health care entities in person and over
the phone.
Physical Requirements
The pharmacy assistant must be able to stand for long periods of time, and be able to handle the
stresses of interacting with customers.
