Job Description
Where we Work
Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.
About This Role
We're looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join our team and help drive the successful planning and execution of high-impact, cross-functional initiatives across our product portfolios. This role is uniquely positioned to support strategic and technically complex efforts that span Product, Engineering, and Design-with a focus on scalable delivery, system-level thinking, and operational excellence.
As a TPM embedded within our broader program management function, you'll play a critical role in managing interdependencies across teams, aligning capacity with priorities, and implementing scalable processes to support execution at every stage of the product development lifecycle. While this is not a design-only role, prior experience working with design teams and understanding creative workflows will be a strong asset as you contribute to portfolio-level coordination.
We're looking for someone who has deep program management expertise, strong technical fluency, and a passion for enabling cross-functional teams to do their best work. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how we plan, build, and scale impactful products across multiple domains.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead and manage cross-functional technical programs from initiation through delivery-owning scope, timelines, risks, and communication across Product, Engineering, and Design.
Collaborate with functional leads to ensure roadmaps are aligned, capacity is understood, and delivery plans are realistic and prioritized.
Drive technical scoping and discovery efforts, helping clarify requirements, surface constraints, and align on trade-offs early in the development lifecycle.
Promote operational excellence by maintaining and iterating on tools, workflows, and metrics (e.g., JIRA configurations, reporting dashboards, sprint hygiene).
Identify and manage dependencies across multiple workstreams, helping unblock teams and keeping initiatives on track.
Communicate program status and key decisions effectively to stakeholders at all levels, tailoring communication styles to technical and non-technical audiences.
Facilitate retrospectives and post-launch reviews, synthesizing learnings into actionable improvements for future projects.
Work with other TPMs on complex, cross-cutting initiatives and independently lead programs in your assigned areas.
Support teams with change management, especially around evolving tools, processes, and team structures.
Contribute to DesignOps and other cross-functional practices that enhance delivery for creative, product, and engineering teams
We're Excited About You Because You Have:
4+ years of experience (or equivalent) as a Technical Program Manager in a fast-paced, software-focused organization.
Strong program/project management fundamentals with a track record of driving successful cross-functional delivery.
Experience working closely with product and engineering teams, and familiarity with supporting design teams or creative workflows.
Proficiency with project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence-able to configure workflows, dashboards, and reporting tools for visibility and alignment.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills-able to bring clarity to complex initiatives.
A collaborative and proactive approach, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and remove roadblocks.
Comfort using data and metrics to assess progress, drive decision-making, and inform continuous improvement.
Ability to juggle multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
A systems-thinking mindset and a desire to improve how teams work together, whether that's through tooling, process, or operational support.
Nice to Have:
Experience contributing to operational frameworks (e.g., onboarding programs, rituals, documentation standards).
Familiarity with design systems or DesignOps practices.
Background in supporting teams focused on user-facing products or experiences.
