Salary Range

$43,700.00 - $82,400.00

Overview Working under the direction of the Finance Manager in the Departments of Pathology, Laboratory Medicine and Therapeutic Radiology, the Portfolio Associate position supports the departments research enterprise and is responsible for managing day to day financial transactions and financial reporting. The position provides a high level of customer service and interacts with all levels of finance within the department and the Yale School of Medicine community. The Portfolio Associate will gain the knowledge to exercise discretion and independent judgment while working on various research funding sources including federal and non-federal awards, gifts and endowments, and University Service Provider accounts. Handles all activities for post-award for assigned portfolios and acts as a first-level approver for Workday financial transactions. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Ability to be detailed-oriented and multi-task in a high volume environment. 2. Well-developed organizational and analytical skills to multitask and integrate several functions together. 3. Ability to prepare journal entries. 4. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume business office with consistently high levels of accuracy, manage priorities and provide quality customer service exercising flexibility, creative problem-solving skills and resourcefulness.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Financial Reporting & Analysis: Identifies trends and variances through the development of reports such as forecast and trend analyses. Analyzes budgets to ensure appropriate charging of expenses and integration of data, analyze data and develop complex analytical reports for principal investigators including trend analysis, forecast future financial scenarios, develop long range projections, and variance analyses. 2. Budget Development: Develops proposals and budgets for grant and contract submissions; coordinate with partnering institutions. Help to ensure compliance with sponsor regulations and University policies and procedures. 3. Compliance and Risk Management: Reviews, interprets and effectively applies sponsor policies on a variety of topics including cost allowability, budget management and other award management activities to ensure compliance with sponsoring agency requirements and University policies and procedures. Planning, organizing and prioritizing actions to ensure compliance across multiple awards and investigators' portfolios. 4. Effective Finance Partner: Interacts with faculty and internal and external contacts, such as the School of Medicine, Grant & Contract Administration and Grant & Contract Financial Administration, and granting agencies by helping manage the internal pre award proposal process and the management of sponsored funding. 5. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required. Degrees received in Accounting, Business or Finance preferred. 0-2 years of experience with demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced environment.
