Job Overview:
The Radiology Utilization Coordinator is responsible for optimizing the appropriate use of radiology examinations across inpatient, emergency, and outpatient settings. This role focuses on ensuring proper exam selection, supporting clinical throughput, and expediting imaging services to enhance patient care and departmental efficiency.
Job Duties:
Include the following, other duties may be assigned.
- Inpatient Imaging Utilization:
- Review inpatient MRI, CT, and Interventional procedures for appropriateness.
- Collaborate with referring providers to order most appropriate test, acting as a liaison between the ordering provider and the radiologists.
- Streamline scheduling of inpatient to outpatient procedure and IR exam conversions.
- Closely monitor and track physician ordering patterns deviating from care pathways to identify optimizations and education opportunities.
- In real time, expedite, prioritize, synchronize, and mediate clinical issues specific to Radiology service line, removing barriers to discharge and addressing delays in care.
- Triage radiology alerts and situational awareness via investigation per the electronic medical record and additional clinical resources.
- Provide leadership and work with Command Center colleagues to address patient flow issues.
- In concert with Case Management and Transfer Center, coordinate and determine system strategies for Leave of Absence for the regional patient.
- Collaborate with Command Center operations and acute care leadership to identify process improvement strategies, reduce patient length of stay (LOS), trend delays, support quality initiatives and enhance patient safety.
- Define patient activity triggers and feedback mechanisms to inform operational team members, physician leaders, and administrative team to mitigate over capacity situations.
- In collaboration with Command Center leadership, develop quality and performance criteria and metrics for specific departmental initiatives.
Required Certificates and Licenses:
- The individual must be licensed by the Indiana State Department of Health as a Radiologic Technologist, certified by the ARRT as a Radiologic Technologist, and maintain annual renewal/registration with the certifying organization.
- The individual should learn duties within six months of hire.
- Advanced modality is preferred.
- Leadership experience preferred.
