Job Description

FLSmidth Cement USA, Inc., seeks Field Services Engineer III, Operational Services in Allentown, PA

Job Duties: Provide installation, checkout, and commissioning advisory services for FLSmidth equipment. Develop specialized and optimized process solutions to customers on FLS-specific equipment kilns (Rotax), coolers (Grate, SF, MMC, CB), burners (Duoflex, Jetflex), raw grinding mills (ROK, Atox, and FRM), finish grinding mills (OK), and other cement processing equipment. Carry out comprehensive process audits, heat and mass balances at the existing cement plants, examining current operations, process variables, and quality parameters and providing recommendations for improvements in fuel consumption, emissions reduction, and product quality. Provide sales support to generate process solutions and participate in customer meetings to carry out technical discussions and provide clarifications. Perform electrical, mechanical, and process troubleshooting of the relevant equipment and provide correct diagnostic assessments. Establish action plans and priorities to support successful project/service completion, provide mature, in-depth analysis of problems, and develop realistic solutions. Provide timely, concise, and complete written and oral reports. Troubleshoot and resolve implementation problems and train customers on the features of the equipment. Prepare and present training plans for internal and external use and develop field standards. Professionally interface with a wide selection of company and customer personnel. Identify opportunities to increase sales of service programs and spare parts orders; provide technical support for equipment order proposals. Identify and correct more complex problems associated with start-up. Research, evaluate, and recommend new products or equipment upgrades that will meet customer needs. Promote a culture of personal and team safety, including for others who may be affected by the company’s operational activities. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance of the worksite. Up to 70% of domestic and/or international travel required.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field plus 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

  • Process, quality control, commissioning, and process optimization of the cement process (5 years)
  • Solution offering for cement process, emissions control, and operational improvements (5 years)
  • Raw Mills, Finish Mill, Preheaters, Flash dryers, Cement coolers, and kilns specific to cement processing equipment (5 years)
  • Cement processes, sizing different industrial equipment and understanding of engineering principles specific to cement production (5 years)
  • Generating process flow sheets, mass flows, review control and instrumentation diagrams, conducting process audits, preparing mass and energy balances (5 years)
  • Leading communication with customers, clients, contractors, and suppliers (5 years)
  • Coordinating, developing, and delivering technical training seminars to small or large groups (3 years)
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (5 years)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
