The Role
We are seeking a Finance Manager to join our Finance & Strategy Engineering team, partnering with executives across the Engineering organization. Reporting to the Strategic Finance Lead for Block, this person will drive financial strategy, modeling and planning, while serving as a trusted advisor to Engineering leadership. You will focus on strategic analytical work, optimizing infrastructure investments, guiding tooling and software strategy, and supporting Block's AI investment roadmap. You'll develop complex financial models to evaluate opportunities, establish KPIs aligned with company strategy, and influence Block's technical direction through a financial lens to ensure optimal decisions on infrastructure and technical investments that will shape the company's future.
This role offers the opportunity to be at the intersection of finance and technology, directly impacting how Block invests in its engineering capabilities and infrastructure to support our growing business.
You Will
- Be the primary strategic finance partner for infrastructure and relevant software vendors to the Cloud Economics, Platform Engineering and other Product Engineering teams
- Develop and maintain sophisticated economic models with technical and financial tradeoffs, while building an in-depth understanding of Block's infrastructure and software strategy to provide strategic recommendations that supports the growth and profitability goals of the business
- Build and manage relationships with senior business partners, lead preparation and presentation of financial reviews with senior stakeholders
- Influence strategy through effective verbal and written communication
- Drive core financial processes including quarterly forecasts, annual planning, and long-range planning
You Have
- 8-10 years of relevant finance experience, including at least 4 years in a strategic finance function. Prior experience supporting cloud infrastructure and vendor management is strongly preferred
- The ability to distill complex information into clear problem statements that can be systematically analyzed and communicated; ability to structure both approaches and solutions in a way that is actionable for all audiences
- Comfort working with metrics, building new KPIs and navigating large data sets to find answers to complex problems
- Track record of successful partnership with engineering organizations
- Ability to navigate ambiguous workstreams and build processes from scratch
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets
