Job Description

SEL Government Services Department (GSD) is seeking a Firmware Engineer to help develop a new device platform to meet the communication, metering, and power protection needs of the U.S. government.
In this role, you will play a key role in the design and development of devices that make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical. You will work alongside power engineers, hardware engineers, and FPGA design engineers to spec, design, code, and test the firmware that controls these critical devices. SEL is committed to providing its engineers an environment of innovation in the power industry. You will have opportunities to invent and improve standards and own patents.
A typical day might include the following:
Design and develop systems for secure communication.
Work with hardware engineers to develop the code that controls our electronic devices.
Partner with power engineers to implement algorithms to detect faults or other anomalies within an electrical power system.
Participate in peer code and design reviews.
Write code that interfaces with RTL for data acquisition.
Write tests that ensure requirements are met.
Qualifications:
B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
2+ years of experience developing software using the following technologies:
C/C++
Real-time firmware development
Python
Embedded System
Object Oriented Programming
Unit Testing
Embedded Linux
High attention to detail.
Ability and desire to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and own the work that you do.

Pay Range Data
We anticipate filling this position as a Firmware Engineer $97,740 - $144,460. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
