SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Food Service Staff member supports daily kitchen operations by assisting with meal preparation, food service, cleaning, and maintaining a safe and organized kitchen environment. This position works under the direction of the Kitchen Manager and collaborates with other team members to ensure a positive dining experience for all individuals served.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to Kitchen Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transports food and supplies to cafeteria and stores in proper place.
  • Washes and prepares ingredients for cooking.
  • Washes and dries dishes, service trays before serving food.
  • Collects dishes/service trays after use.
  • Washes, cleans, dries and secures all cafeteria cutlery and crockery.
  • Washes service counter, kitchen counter, ovens, refrigerators, cooking pans.
  • Prepares and cooks a variety of foods.
  • Cleans and sanitizes kitchen and serving area.
  • Prepares serving area for breakfast and lunch items.
  • Serves breakfast and lunch items to students in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment.
  • Uses all kitchen equipment with care and proper safety precautions.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, well organized kitchen and serving area.
  • Provides work related instruction, as needed.
  • Familiarity with health and safety requirements and regulations for all individuals receiving services.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently as well as in conjunction as with other staff members.
  • Participates in agency in-services.
  • Serves as the primary backup to the Food Service Manager in their absence.
  • Consistently complies with all Agency policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use word-processing programs.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and safe handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and skill in cleaning kitchen equipment and facilities.
  • Ability to operate dishwashers and other kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to use standard cleaning tools such as brooms, mops, and buckets.
  • Ability to accurately count, record, and follow order guides.
  • Courteous, tactful, and able to maintain positive interactions with staff and students.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • First Aid training will be provided upon hire.
