Food Service Worker (baker's assistant)

Schedule/Travel: Full-time, academic year (10 month) position. Typical schedule is Tuesday through Saturday 10:30 am to 7 pm (includes a ½ hour unpaid meal period). Additional hours may be required. Schedule may vary according to department and Kent School needs.

Position Summary:

Assist Baker with preparation as needed.  Set up and maintain bake shop station during lunch and dinner service.

• Monitor station during service for quality and cleanliness as well as ensure station is well-stocked.
• Assist in afternoon prep with the Baker.
• Observe Bakeshop during lunch and dinner service – restock bakery items, maintain soft serve machine and be responsible for gluten-free items.

• Inspect food for taste, quality and overall appearance.

• Recommend changes to improve quality, flavor and cost efficiency.

• Maintain a clean and safe environment based on federal, state and local sanitation requirements.

• FIFO, labeling, ownership of your station’s refrigerator and storage areas.

• Communicate with co-workers in a constructive and positive manner.

• Contribute to team effort by supporting other stations as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience in related fields, preferably in a busy cafeteria style environment. Servsafe certification is required (will be provided if needed).

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills working with various audiences (faculty, staff and students).
• Skilled in prioritizing, multitasking and time management.
• Able to work well under pressure.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a calm demeanor.
• Willingness to support team members as needed.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

• Requires to be on their feet for extended periods and climb stairs.
• Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

• Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
• Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
• Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
