Job Description

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a highly organized and detailed-oriented Gallery Learning Coordinator to oversee the daily coordination of gallery learning programs including school tours, teacher programs, docent-led public and private tours, and volunteer schedules and events. This role reports to the Manager of Education Programs and the Manager of Gallery Learning. This is a full-time, non-exempt position in the Education and Family Programs Department. The schedule is Monday through Friday with the flexibility to work weekends, and occasional evenings or holidays, as needed.

Rate: $24.00/hour

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily oversight of onsite school programs, and public and private docent-led tours, focusing on scheduling, coordination with museum educators, schools, teachers, docents, and volunteers
  • Coordinate the daily logistics of TK– Grade12 school visits, guided and self-guided tours, including tour scheduling, staff schedule, pre- and post-visit communication with teachers, administrators, and visitors
  • Greet students, teachers, and visitors for on-site education programs, both in permanent and changing exhibitions, and occasionally at community-based, off-site programs
  •  Collaborate with Education team members to maintain and update curriculum materials, tour scripts, and pre- and post-visit resources for teachers, community and education partners
  • Work cross-departmentally with Operations, Hospitality, Museum, and Public Programs teams to schedule school tours and in-gallery programs on the campus-wide calendar and reserve spaces
  • Maintain accurate records of school visits, attendance, and evaluations using internal database systems (Teams, Altru, FileMaker Pro or equivalent)
  • Monitor and track aspects of the Education budget, work with the Managers to approve bus funding requests, monitor commitments, submit purchase orders, manage invoices, and provide reporting as requested
  • Provide general program support to Education and Family Programs team members with projects as assigned.

Qualifications, Experiences, and Attributes:

  • 2–3 years of experience coordinating educational programs for TK – Grade 12 students, preferably in a museum, school, or community-based organization: Familiarity with California educational standards, including Common Core and Visual and Performing Arts Standards
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum Studies, Art History, History, or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Team player with a warm and welcoming manner, patience, diplomacy, and ability to work well with people of different ages, abilities, communities, and work styles
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skilled at communicating with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, One Drive, and Zoom; Experience with systems management software Financial Edge, Altru, and FileMaker Pro.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to oversee detailed schedules, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work long hours that require physical agility (kneeling, crouching, lifting, sitting on floor, etc.) and sustained energy.
  • Preferred: Personal resonance with the Skirball's mission; ability to convey it to visitors. Prior experience working in a culturally specific organization, with knowledge of Jewish history, culture, and traditions.
