Job Description
The Gas & Chemical Commissioning Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant startup of gas and chemical systems within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and documenting mechanical commissioning activities across all ASHRAE commissioning phases. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, technically complex environment and has strong experience commissioning high-purity gas and chemical distribution systems.
Responsibilities:
Planning & Documentation (Pre-Commissioning Phase)
- Develop and implement mechanical commissioning plans aligned with ASHRAE guidelines.
- Review design documents, specifications, and IFC drawings while serving as Task Leader (TL).
- Create system verification checklists and detailed functional test procedures.
- Review, update, and enhance mechanical Sequences of Operation (SOO).
- Coordinate with Test and Balance (TAB) contractors to establish complete testing protocols.
Technical Execution (Commissioning Phases 2–6)
Phase 2 – Factory Witness Testing (ASHRAE Level 1)
- Lead factory acceptance tests (FAT) for mechanical, gas, and chemical equipment.
- Document test results and verify compliance with project specifications.
Phase 3 – Construction & Installation Verification (ASHRAE Level 2)
- Conduct visual inspections of gas and chemical installations, structural supports, and field routing.
- Verify compliance with mechanical codes and oversee pressure/hydrostatic and duct leakage testing.
- Confirm equipment access, service clearances, and installation of sensors and control systems.
Phases 4–5 – Operational & Functional Testing (ASHRAE Levels 3–4)
- Coordinate and oversee airflow and hydronic TAB activities.
- Test and verify chemical system controls, including chemical boxes, manifolds, and distribution systems.
- Perform Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) in alignment with approved SOOs.
- Validate installation of gas systems including piping, tanks, controls, supports/hangers, labeling, and reporting documentation.
- Test and verify Life Safety Systems and ensure proper interaction with gas and chemical equipment.
- Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.
Skills Required:
- 3+ years of experience commissioning gas and chemical equipment in semiconductor or other mission-critical facilities.
- Strong understanding of ASHRAE commissioning principles (Levels 1–4).
- Hands-on experience with high-purity gas systems, chemical distribution systems, and related controls.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and SOOs.
- Working knowledge of TAB activities, pressure testing, and Life Safety Systems.
Education / Licenses / Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (highly desirable, not required).
- Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable
