Job Description
Carmen Northwest High School is seeking a Coach for the Girls Basketball Team for the 2025–2026 season (November – March). The position will receive support from the Carmen Northwest Campus Athletics Coordinator and Milwaukee Public Schools Athletic Office. The Head Coach will receive a stipend commensurate with experience for their work as a coach (paid in two parts – Dec. 15th & March 15th).

Position Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; college experience is a plus (Preferred)
- At least two years of previous coaching experience at a similar competitive level (Preferred)
- Heavy physical lifting (25 lbs maximum)
- Standing, bending, running, repetitive motion, and squatting required on a daily basis
- Ability to describe, lead, instruct, and perform all drills at a top speed
- CPR/First Aid certified
- Must pass the Milwaukee Public Schools background check.
- High School Varsity and/or College Player (Preferred)
Position Responsibilities
Overview
- Work under the supervision of Carmen's Network Director of Athletics and Carmen Northwest's Athletics Coordinator maintaining communication throughout the season regarding players, parents or program needs/issues.
- Uphold Carmen's mission of preparing students for success in their future education, career, community involvement, and family life.
- Develop a daily practice plan and share with assistant coaches. Teach basketball skills and instruct athletes on the rules of the game.
- Motivate student-athletes to develop an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
- Establish a positive team culture where athletes are held accountable for their behavior and attendance, and where respect is shown to all teammates, coaches, and referees.
Communication
- Consistent and regular communication with ADs regarding scheduling, practices, games, and gym usage. Bi-weekly meetings with ADs during season.
- Utilize a team communication app such as Teamer, RemindMe to communicate to parents, athletes, coaches and ADs.
Parent Engagement
- Re-invent/Grow/Adapt Communication and Strategies with Parents and Students including, but not limited to eligibility, fundraising opportunities, paperwork deadlines, and scheduling.
- Hold pre-season meetings for all stakeholders to communicate expectations and requirements for participation.
Goal Setting
- Produce Individual Coaching Smart Goals, Team SMART Goals, Facilitate Player SMART Goals, and track progress throughout season.
Other Responsibilities
- Complete all MPS or WIAA-required coaches trainings, assessments, meetings, and reporting.
- Increase student-athlete participation and retention of athletes throughout the season (Goal: 40 high school participants).
- Plan and execute end-of-season recognition (Awards night, etc.).
- Facilitate growth of program through smooth transition from MS to HS basketball programs
- Lead successful fundraising efforts to support extra expenses for team
