Job Summary:
The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for leading engaging and effective small group fitness classes using a pre-designed format focused on improving members’ overall health, strength, and endurance. The instructor ensures a safe workout environment while also serving as an educational resource on exercise and wellness for all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Class Preparation
  • Arrive 10–15 minutes before class to greet members, answer questions, discuss fitness goals, and welcome new participants.
  • Build rapport with members and develop an understanding of their individual fitness levels and limitations.
  • Prepare appropriate music and equipment for class.
  • Check in participants and verify active memberships.
  • Demonstrate proper body alignment, technique, and form for all movements.
During Class
  • Introduce yourself and the class format at the beginning of each session.
  • Identify any first-time participants and briefly assess their fitness level to ensure appropriate modifications.
  • Provide clear, concise instructions throughout the workout.
  • Foster a positive, motivating, and inclusive class atmosphere.
  • Observe and correct participants’ form to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Offer exercise modifications to accommodate various fitness levels and abilities.
Post-Class Duties
  • Ensure the workout area is clean, organized, and equipment is returned to its proper place.
  • Address questions or concerns from participants and provide helpful feedback.
  • Collect and submit class attendance/roster to the front desk.
  • Encourage participant feedback to improve future classes.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Start and end classes on time.
  • Sanitize equipment and sweep the studio floor after each session.
  • Maintain reliability and consistency in your class schedule.
  • Uphold a professional and positive attitude in all interactions.
  • Actively promote the gym and its programs to members and guests.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum of 6 months experience teaching group fitness classes preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of group exercise principles and safe workout techniques.
  • Understanding of basic anatomy, physiology, and body mechanics.
  • Ability to design and lead a variety of effective, engaging fitness routines.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and troubleshoot class equipment.
  • Ability to teach 2-3 classes per week
