Job Description
DESCRIPTION:
The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting in and coordinating Ashcroft's health and safety processes and compliance. Coordinates safety related training, employee safety awareness, inspection compliance, accident investigation and reporting, database management and responding to health and safety related concerns. These will include issues of industrial hygiene, injury prevention, OSHA compliance, permit compliance, PPE management, workers compensation, first aid response and emergency management. This role will also be responsible for the management of key safety databases such as SDS, LOTO and Safety Tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administer OSHA required programs in accordance with OSHA guidelines. Schedule OSHA required employee training, medical exams and other compliance activities. Conduct employee training.
Lead Stratford's Safety Committee with the purpose of reducing work-related accidents. Ensure compliance with state regulations. Lead Stratford's First Aid Team with the purpose of ensuring emergency and first aid response for all employees. Administer first aid and emergency medical response as needed.
Maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program. Review, approve and request new PPE in conjunction with purchasing department for vendor managed inventory.
Promote compliance with Ashcroft's safety policies and programs. Prepare educational information for employees related to safety awareness and injury prevention. Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents and environmental incidents.
Conduct facility inspections and participate in routine audits for environmental and safety compliance. Manage routine inspections process and reporting for environmental and safety requirements. Maintain key safety databases. Manage compliance projects such as ergonomic analyses, LOTO and SDS updates.
Assist in workers compensation reporting and return to work procedures. Participate in incident investigations with supervisors and/or insurance carrier if required. Make recommendations to correct unsafe working conditions as a result of accident investigation. Report on accidents monthly to the Safety Committee, EHS Manager and VP Human Resources.
Coordinate annual testing with outside consultants of safety related items such as fire extinguishers, hoist inspections and others as required.
Work closely with facilities staff to assist with day-to-day upkeep and repairs of safety related issues. Maintain safety communications such as safety posters, bulletin boards and electronic postings. Participate on other projects as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in safety or a related field.
- 2-4 Years experience working in manufacturing environments.
- Hands on experience or knowledge working with safety protocols, processes, and reviews.
- Associate Safety Professional or other professional certification preferred.
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
- Ability to work in a multi-functional team.
- Ability to create communications and presentations on safety topics.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.
- Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and project managers.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365 applications and Sharepoint.
