As our Heavy Mobile Equipment Operations Manager, you would oversee the fleet management and optimization of heavy mobile equipment and vehicles within our fleet. This position is critical to ensure that our fleets are managed effectively, safely, and with reduced costs.

Position Summary:

The Heavy Mobile Equipment Operations Manager is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day management of our heavy equipment and vehicle fleet with full ownership of fleet related profit and loss (P&L). This role ensures the fleet is maintained safely, utilized efficiently, and aligned with organizational performance and financial goals. The position leads fleet personnel, manages budgets, implements new systems and processes, and partners with internal stakeholders to deliver best in class fleet operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of fleet managers, maintenance technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Own the fleet department P&L, including forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Develop, manage, and control fleet capital and operating budgets to ensure cost-effective delivery.
  • Oversee acquisition, leasing, maintenance, repair, and disposal of heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Implement new fleet management systems, accounting tools, and operational processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain fleet policies, procedures, and internal controls for procurement, utilization, maintenance, and replacement planning.
  • Prepare and analyze reports on equipment utilization, lifecycle costs, maintenance history, and ROI.
  • Maintain accurate fleet records including inventory, asset movements, depreciation tracking, and maintenance documentation.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, margin improvement, and asset optimization through financial and operational analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company safety standards.
  • Partner with accounting, operations, and division leaders to align fleet strategy with business objectives.
  • Negotiate vendor, leasing, and service agreements to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement through training and development.
  • Stay current on emerging fleet technologies, financial tools, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of leadership or management experience with direct team oversight.
  • 5 years supervising equipment operations, maintenance teams, or fleet operations.
  • Strong accounting or financial background with demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • Proven ownership of departmental or operational P&L responsibility.
  • Experience implementing new systems, processes, and standard operating procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency in fleet management software, financial systems, and performance analytics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Operations, or related field required.
  • Fleet management, accounting, or project management certifications preferred.
