Compensation Rate: $15.00 per hour Closing Date: 09/08/2025
Must be available weekday afternoons, when the Homeschool PE course takes place.

Position Purpose: To assist the Manhattan Parks & Recreation Department (MPRD) staff in delivering a quality Physical Education (PE) curriculum for homeschooled youth.
Job Duties
- Deliver homeschool PE class sessions with Lead Instructor, using program lesson plan as written by MPRD Staff.
- Interact with children aged 5-14 in an active learning environment.
- Notify, instruct, and correct participant behavior that is inconsistent with program rules in a fair, measured, and timely manner.
- Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with participants, parents, and coworkers.
- Establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with other employees, department personnel, and the public (participants, parents, etc.). Engage with these individuals in a helpful, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Provide excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy that reflects the MPRD's mission.
- Promote a safe and positive learning environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Additional Qualifications
- Possess the characteristics of a strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Friendly and energetic demeanor.
- Experience working with diverse sets of school-aged youth.
- A high level of patience.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Background in Physical Education or pursuing study in Physical Education or similar field of study.
Other Information
- This is not a KPERS-covered position.
- Must pass a background check.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work is performed at the Eisenhower Recreation Center.
- Work is performed on weekday afternoons.
- Noise level and activity level will be varied.
- Stands, walks, sits, uses hands, handles, feels, speaks, hears, climbs stairs, pushes, pulls, or lifts up to 50 pounds.
Employment is contingent upon your unrestricted authorization to work in the United States and providing documentation establishing your identity and authority to work within the time period specified by law. Must pass all pre-employment tests including all applicable background checks.
