Job Description
Job Summary
Please note: This is 18 months duration from the date of hire.
The Industry Documents Library (IDL) at UCSF is seeking an IDL Education & Outreach Specialist to support its mission of facilitating research into public health issues such as smoking, secondhand smoke, and vaping. The IDL houses documents from lawsuits against corporations like Philip Morris and Juul, serving as a vital resource for researchers, educators, and legal professionals.
In this role, the specialist will lead outreach, education, and communication efforts to promote the library's resources and engage diverse audiences, including students, attorneys, faculty, and public health professionals. Key responsibilities include creating webinars, tutorials, search guides, blog posts, and social media content tailored to various user groups. The specialist will also be responsible for crafting press releases and developing instructional videos to enhance accessibility and visibility of the library's resources.
Role Priorities:
- Strong Communication Skills: The ability to write compelling press releases, create engaging instructional videos, and manage outreach efforts through social media platforms.
- Educational Expertise: Experience in developing training materials and tailoring communication strategies to meet the needs of diverse audiences.
This position is ideal for candidates passionate about public health, education, and outreach, with a talent for crafting effective communication strategies and engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $38.08 - $52.43 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- At least 3 years of experience in a related role
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex problems, and recommend solutions
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy and tact in dealing with a variety of people and situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new tools and workflows and try out different approaches
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work, with strong project management skills and the ability to use considerable judgement and take initiative
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across domains and subject specialties
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and effective professional writing style
- Thorough professional knowledge of a full range of specialized functional subject area activities. This knowledge may be acquired through library experience, possibly in combination with specialized training and skills or relevant academic preparation
- Thorough knowledge of applicable systems and databases
- Thorough knowledge of library data transformation techniques and software tools. Recommends new technology as needed
