Position Summary
A DMA client has an opportunity for an Indirect Tax Specialist. The Indirect Tax Specialist is responsible for supervising US indirect tax compliance for motor vehicle leasing. Emphasis is on compliance, tax planning, and communicating indirect tax matters to client management. The Tax Specialist must develop and maintain knowledge of tax laws and court decisions, as well as “customs and practices” for state and local jurisdictions in which the company does business. Additionally, Specialist must develop and maintain knowledge of company operations and plan & manage the development and implementation of systems and procedures to ensure proper compliance with the law while minimizing the tax impact. Provide counsel, advice, and direction to business teams to ensure consistent, effective, and efficient handling of client tax compliance and planning efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Support a diverse portfolio of US indirect tax work, primarily motor vehicle leasing research, tax rate analysis and updates, systems integration and configuration, and project and transaction support for business teams.
Analyze client operations, data and tax burdens; plan and implement corrective action where problems are identified.
Prepare and file US sales & use and miscellaneous excise returns, review tax exemption applications and submitted certificates, and resolution of applicable state/local tax notices.
Support the US client company car leasing programs including business advisory assistance with transactional tax rules, “what-if” scenarios, and company-specific programs.
Review/draft legislative proposals, analyze their effect on company operations, and recommend modifications and/or a position of support or opposition.
Informal management of complex tax issues and trends for proper tax planning.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Law or related field
7+ years of Finance experience.
A minimum requirement for this US-based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional designations demonstrating competencies in US Indirect Tax.
0-5 years relevant technical experience in State & Local – Indirect Tax, particularly in the motor vehicle leasing sector.
Experience with Vertex (sales, use, and excise tax).
