Job Description
Laravel is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our all-remote Laravel Cloud Infrastructure team. Our mission is to improve the experience of developers everywhere in the world. To do that, we don't just build beautiful software products - we invest in a world-class infrastructure foundation and the people who make it possible.
We're taking on ambitious and exciting infrastructure challenges, and we're looking for a leader who can help the team succeed in that mission. This role is about developing people, guiding technical direction, and creating an environment where engineers can do their best work.
In this role, you will lead the Infrastructure team responsible for our recently announced Laravel Cloud platform - a fully managed infrastructure platform built for developers and teams who just want to ship their next big idea, relentlessly optimized for Laravel and PHP. As the Engineering Manager, you'll guide the team's execution, support their growth, and ensure that our platform is reliable, scalable, and delightful for the developers who depend on it.
Location: Between EU West and US East for optimal collaboration with the team.
About the Role
We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Infrastructure team - the group responsible for the foundation that powers our developer-focused cloud platform. You'll guide a team of infrastructure engineers in building secure, scalable, and resilient platform components across Kubernetes (EKS), AWS, networking, storage, observability, and internal infrastructure services.
You'll partner closely with product, engineering and leadership to deliver a platform developers love, while driving technical excellence, operational maturity, and team health.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and grow a distributed team of infrastructure engineers
- Foster an engineering culture that emphasizes autonomy, ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement
- Support career development through 1:1s, goal setting, and regular feedback
- Collaborate with leadership to shape strategy, resourcing, and roadmap for the infrastructure team
- Ensure reliability, availability, and performance through operational excellence
- Drive adoption of infrastructure best practices such as GitOps, Infrastructure as Code and security
- Partner with product to help shape and define requirements for upcoming projects
- Communicate technical direction and priorities clearly with engineers, leadership, and stakeholders
- Work closely with other engineering leads to ensure seamless platform experiences
How We'll Know You're Succeeding (The 12-Month View)
In Your First 30 Days
You will have gotten a clear picture of the State of the Union of the Infrastructure team and platform. Based on this insight, you will have formed strong opinions and a concrete plan on how to best work with the team and leadership going forward.
In Your First 90 Days
You will have made a significant impact in your role. This will include having influenced and potentially restructured the team's processes, identified key pain points the team is experiencing, and communicated these clearly with all stakeholders. At this point, you will have also begun actively working on talent retention, development, and acquisition initiatives.
In Your First 12 Months
You will have taken clear, decisive ownership of the Infrastructure engineering organization. You will have successfully put clear, effective processes in place for the team to succeed. Ultimately, you will have instilled a level of professionalism that makes the team perform at an elite level without it seeming chaotic, resulting in a reliable, scalable, and delightful Laravel Cloud platform.
