Job Description

The Instructional Development Manager (IDM) leads the design, development, and delivery of engaging, effective training content across multiple modalities. This role blends instructional design expertise with high-level project management and stakeholder coordination to support timely, high-quality content deliverables. This role includes an emphasis on engineering AI chatbots to support student learning.

The IDM title reflects the multifaceted nature of the position, which spans instructional design, content development, project oversight, cross-functional collaboration, and content integration with publisher partners.

This position specifically supports skill-based training for industry, supporting Infotec, an IT and Leadership Training division of ECPI University. For over 30 years, Infotec has been providing training excellence to companies interested in improving their people and their organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop measurable learning objectives, assessments, and instructional materials-including multimedia, interactive lessons, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Apply adult learning theory and best practices to create engaging online, in-person, and hybrid courses aligned with institutional standards, certification requirements, and employer expectations.
  • Manage course development projects, including schedules, stakeholders, budgets, vendor relationships, and communications to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and leadership to align content with outcomes and secure required materials.
  • Train and support SMEs and staff on course development processes, instructional tools, and best practices for multimodal teaching.
  • Update and maintain content in response to textbook changes, software updates, and institutional requirements.
  • Evaluate external development solutions and instructional technologies, maintaining relationships with publishers and vendors as needed.
  • Promote best practices for designing inclusive and engaging learning strategies that support diverse learners.
  • Lead the design and integration of AI tools, such as chatbots, to enhance student learning and organizational operations.
  • Stay current with instructional design trends and educational technologies (including Generative AI).

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Adult Education or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years of higher education experience, with a focus on distance or blended learning.
  • At least three years of instructional design experience, including course development for adult learners.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex instructional projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience designing certification-focused content or assessments is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory, assessment alignment, and instructional best practices.
  • Proficiency in LMS platforms (Canvas preferred), as well as digital authoring tools like Articulate Storyline, Captivate, and Camtasia.
  • Strong project management skills and experience using PM tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Monday.com).
  • Ability to analyze performance data and apply insights to instructional improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative team mindset.

Comfortable working in a hybrid or remote environment.
