About the Job
Licensed Insurance Agents at NerdWallet support customers by quoting, comparing, and binding insurance products from our carrier partners. They also assist with servicing newly bound policies and cross-selling additional insurance solutions based on customer needs.
In this role, you’ll help individuals and businesses find the right insurance coverage. Core responsibilities include assessing client needs, explaining policy options, assisting with applications, and managing renewals. You’ll also provide claims support and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, while contributing to sales efforts and business growth.
Where You Can Make an Impact
Conduct client assessments to evaluate insurance needs and potential risks
Recommend appropriate products including auto, home, life, and health insurance
Clearly explain policy terms, coverage, and pricing
Prepare and submit insurance applications and related documentation
Manage policy renewals and support clients through the claims process
Stay informed on current products, compliance requirements, and industry updates
Build strong client relationships and contribute to revenue growth
Meet or exceed sales targets and maintain high client retention
Ensure accurate documentation and timely processing of applications
Report on sales performance and relevant metrics
Day-to-day activities include:
Client consultations and quoting
Policy comparisons and application processing
Lead follow-ups, policy renewals, and claims support
Compliance with licensing and industry standards
Ongoing training and product knowledge development
Your Experience
Active Property and Casualty Insurance License
Minimum of 1 year experience as an insurance agent
High school diploma or equivalent
Familiarity with personal lines insurance carriers and their underwriting processes
Proficiency in CRM tools, email platforms, and quoting software
Experience quoting, selling, and servicing personal lines insurance products
Understanding of relevant insurance products and regulations

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in sales or customer service
Work Location
This is a full-time role requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week. Work may be performed:
From one of our offices in New York or Phoenix, or
In a hybrid model, with at least 3 days per week in-office
You’ll use NerdWallet's communication and productivity tools such as Google Docs, Zoom, and Slack, and a company-provided laptop.
What We Offer
Pay Transparency
This is a non-exempt, hourly role with additional commission-based earnings. On-target earnings (OTE) reflect the expected total compensation, combining base pay and commissions.
Insurance Agent I (AZ): $75,000 OTE (Base rate: $21.63/hr + commission)
Insurance Agent II (AZ): $83,333 OTE (Base rate: $24.04/hr + commission)
Final leveling (Agent I vs. Agent II) will be determined by the hiring manager based on experience.
