South East Coastal Underwriters has an immediate position for a full-time Insurance Underwriter at our Hilton Head office located in South Carolina.
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to evaluate the risks of insuring individuals or businesses, review applications, analyze statistical data, and determine if a policy should be approved and at what premium and terms. The ideal candidate will collaborate with agents and other professionals, use specialized software, and make data-driven decisions to ensure profitability and compliance while minimizing risk for the insurance company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review insurance applications and related documents to evaluate risk.
- Analyze applicant data including financial status, medical history, and property details.
- Determine coverage amounts, premiums, and policy terms.
- Use underwriting software and guidelines to assess risk and make decisions.
- Collaborate with agents, brokers, and other stakeholders to gather additional information.
- Monitor existing policies for changes in risk and recommend adjustments.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and underwriting best practices.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as an insurance underwriter or in a similar role.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM, AU).
- Experience in E&S property, casualty, flood etc.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance standards.
