Job Description

Manufacturing Process Engineer- Summer Internship- May- August 2026

Join us Summer of 2026 as a Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern at Hypertherm Associates! Collaborate with exceptional colleagues, build lasting relationships, and engage in rewarding activities. Hypertherm Associates engineers think outside the box and bring new ideas to life. Our engineers are hands-on and focused on continuous improvement, helping to make industrial cutting more accurate, cost-effective, and safe for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead process improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma practices.

  • Optimize manufacturing processes to enhance quality, reduce costs, improve safety, and increase earnings.

  • Work with a variety of machinery and processes, including multi-axis CNC machines, assembly equipment, laser marking, and packaging equipment.

  • Design tooling, fixtures, and workstations essential for new product introduction to production cells.

Required knowledge, skills, education, and experience:

  • Currently enrolled in an engineering-focused college degree program (industrial/mechanical engineering preferred)

  • Junior (you have completed a minimum of 2 years) and are in good standing

  • Enthusiastic about learning with the ability to work collaboratively in a team, as well as independently on selected projects

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a passion for getting to the root cause of issues

  • Proactive and enthusiastic about implementing new technology and continuous improvement

Preferred Experience that differentiates you:

  • Internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Proficiency in lean manufacturing, statistical analysis (Minitab), geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), SolidWorks, value stream mapping (VSM), design for manufacturability (DFM), process failure mode effects analysis (pFMEA), and structured problem solving.
