Job Description
Purpose of Job:
Junior, senior or graduate student currently attending an accredited college to perform research, analysis and modeling under supervision of the ODEC power supply team. Assignments serve to offer practical experience and exposure to research within power generation, understanding of power supply portfolios, and analysis in the energy industry and the electric cooperative environment. This opportunity is performed in ODEC’s Glen Allen, Virginia home office.
Essential responsibilities include:
- Research and compile public information on the cost and operating parameters of various types of power generation.
- Prepare reports to present the research in a clear and concise manner.
- Participate in compiling modeling information and evaluation of various modeling techniques.
- Assist in analyzing the value of the forward power supply and natural gas portfolio.
Work Experience:
- Currently enrolled in and attending an accredited college as a junior, senior or graduate student studying computer science, mathematics, statistics, operations research, engineering or economics
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels.
- Ability to effectively research and analyze power industry-related information.
- Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Programming experience strongly preferred.
- Electric utility and cooperative knowledge and experience preferred.
Education: Currently enrolled in and attending an accredited college as a junior, senior or graduate student studying computer science, mathematics, statistics, operations research, engineering or economics
Travel details: Travel is not anticipated; however, occasional travel may be needed in this position.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Daily work in an office environment
- Hand-eye coordination to use a keyboard and monitor frequently and visually view various electronic documents.
- Interact effectively with others through verbal communication, video, email and text.
Additional Information
- The Power Supply Intern opportunity runs approximately for 3-4 months, beginning as soon as possible and running through the end of December 2025.
- Minimum 20 hours per weekday during the hours 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Non-Exempt (hourly) position.
- Must be local to the Glen Allen, Virginia home office
We offer a paid internship position. No other benefits are available for this position. The selected individual is responsible for housing and daily transportation to the ODEC home office during the duration of the position.
